The Department of Agrarian Reform(DAR) launched a rural development project that seeks to increase the income and productivity of farmers in western, northern and eastern Mindanao. Convergence on Value Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Development (Converge) aims “to reduce poverty incidence and the vulnerability of farmers through crop diversification and processing of raw materials, either as semi-finished or finished products to increase farm income, productivity and competitiveness of farmers.”
The 2.3 Billion project CONVERGE is a flagship of International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating rural poverty in developing countries. Oro Chamber through its representative VP Irene Floro, will play active role in the review of project proposals as well as encourage the business sector to assist communities for possible market of the products produced by the farmers.
